This work uses images of diverse families to work on one-to-one correspondence. The cards have ten different families consisting of one to ten people. The child counts the family members and labels them with numeral cards. The work ought to be personalized for the diversity of your classroom, so if your classroom has single parents, gay or lesbian parents, black, white, Asian, or children with disabilities consider including images that normalize those family makeups. This work is an age-appropriate way to bring anti-bias principles into the classroom. This work was co-created with two other Montessorians, Doyen Chen and Miao Liang.
