This is a versatile work that can be used on the practical life shelf as a finger transfer sorting work or it can be used to introduce money. It is designed to show three different ways of making 50 cents – with two quarters, five dimes, or ten nickels. The slots for the change are precisely the size of the coins that should fit in them. Nickels, being the thickest, will only fit in the long nickel slot. The dime slot is the thinnest and will only fit the dimes. The length of the three rows are precisely the length of the needed change end to end. Thus there is a control of error with this work.
